My name is David Chen and I am in my 4th year at CU Boulder as an Arts Practices Major. Prior to changing majors, I was studying engineering hoping to do hands on activities which it evidently did not provide. I've always been prone to dabble in many areas of studies and activities but the thing that interested me the most was always the process of learning and discovering. Finding little tricks and developing my own techniques gave me the most thrill and enjoyment.

Art to me is a form of communication and problem solving. Each piece contains a message and those messages can contain entire worlds of thought and engineering within them. I work primarily with traditional materials like pencil and paint but tend to diverge towards mix media. Every now and then I like to do some photography but right now I am learning embroidery and thinking about how I can implement it in future pieces I make. Growing as an artist to me doesn't strictly mean honing one craft but rather improving on many and learning how to synthesize multiple. I am not sure where I wish to go with art since I always felt restrained by familial expectations but as usual, the goal is only part of the journey and being able to improve and learn more gets me excited.

I draw my inspirations games that I play. I like to just observe how worlds are put together and finding nooks and crannies similar to finding small details and an artwork. I enjoy challenging games such as Dark Souls and Monster Hunter or horror games like Resident Evil. I like dissecting the experience afterwards looking at design elements and listening to in-game soundtracks. While I don't have as many in-depth works to express myself compared to other people, I think I have some that can at least express my interests.
