I was introduced to zines really early so the concept of using it as a narrative piece isn't foreign to me. Though while I haven't touched on this medium in a long time, I think I want to do something that is more narrative. I will reference a previous project I did which is essentially just fish under an umbrella. Another student pointed out that the concept I had is a little paradoxical since fish need to be in water to live while an umbrella is intended to shelter something from water. I want to make a play on that concept but in a cityscape where people are replaced by fish. I considered making all the fish-people the same but that would probably make the narrative very flat and plain. Perhaps I would add in multiple types of marine animals just to reference the different types and groups of people we have in real life, possibly even grouping them in a certain way that portrays a character trait or personality. I also want to use an animated short film I saw a few years ago as reference. I like the idea of portraying people as animals and showcasing innate human traits and the short film does it pretty convincingly. I won't be able to get too many pages in since there is a limit so spacing out the pages and narrative will be challenging. I'm unsure of how to approach this visually at the moment, though I will most likely stick to images of real animals so the outcome may look visually creepy. I'm pretty set on this idea, I just need to figure out the details and approach.
